GCREAS Engineering Accreditation Calendar 2012-2013
The GCREAS Accreditation Council announces the opening of its 2012-2013 Calendar for International Accreditation of Engineering Programs, which will abide by the dates indicated below. The Engineering programs interested in participating are expected to send a communication directed to the president of the GCREAS Accreditation Council, Dr. Ramon Vázquez, via the electronic address

GCREAS OTORGA SUS PRIMERAS ACREDITACIONES
El Consejo de Acreditación del GCREAS decidió otorgar diversos grados de acreditación de calidad a los programas participantes, en el Calendario de Acreditación GCREAS 2010 – 2011: Ingeniería Electrónica de la Universidad APEC, República Dominicana; Ingeniería Industrial Empresarial e Ingeniería en Telecomunicaciones de la Universidad Latina de Panamá. Junto al correspondiente certificado, se entregó un plan de mejoras específicas que dichos programas deben seguir, y a cuyo avance se hará seguimiento antes de la expiración del periodo de acreditación otorgado en cada caso. Cada programa inició así un proceso de fortalecimiento continuo, en diálogo con la Agencia GCREAS. Los planes de mejora entregados a cada uno de los programas evaluados, fueron recogidos en un informe pormenorizado del propio Consejo de Acreditación del GCREAS, dirigido a las autoridades universitarias en cada caso, reportando los resultados de las respectivas deliberaciones del Consejo y sus recomendaciones de ajuste y mejora.

Los programas de Ingeniería interesados en participar deberán enviar una comunicación dirigida al presidente del Consejo de Acreditación del GCREAS, Dr. Ramón Vázquez, vía la dirección electrónica

La Agencia Acreditadora GCREAS anuncia la realización de seminarios presenciales de entrenamiento sobre sus procedimientos de acreditación, destinados a complementar los cursos de entrenamiento en línea que, con el mismo propósito de capacitación de profesionales de la ingeniería, así como de docentes y autoridades universitarias, la Agencia ofrece desde el año 2010 en su sitio de internet.
Los seminarios están siendo co-patrocinados por la agencia decana a nivel mundial en la acreditación de ingeniería, la Accreditation Board Of Engineering Technology (ABET) de los Estados Unidos, y cuentan con la participación de distinguidos conferencistas, expertos en el aseguramiento de calidad y la acreditación de Programas de ingeniería a nivel internacional.
Los primeros seminarios de entrenamiento tendrán lugar en Panamá y la República Dominicana. Para mayor información, incluyendo el Programa de dichos seminarios, y el procedimiento para inscribirse en los mismos, favor hacer “click” en el afiche de promoción que se exhibe a la izquierda de esta nota, o en la opción Seminario Taller, del menú principal de la presente página.

2010 – 2011 Calendar
The GCREAS Accrediting Agency completed the activities of evaluation and accreditation within its 2010 – 2011 Calendar, with the meeting of the Agency’s Accreditation Council celebrated from the 18th throught the 20th of April, 2011, in the GCREAS Headquarters in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.

The GCREAS Accreditation Council has officially announced the opening of the second International accreditation calendar , which is already in process for all the academic and Engineering programs in the Greater Caribbean region that are interested. The work scheduled for the GCREAS Accreditation Calendar 2011 begins in January and concludes in September of the year in progress, with the accreditation of the second group of engineering careers that apply for participation in the GCREAS process.
The interested programs should email a letter of interest to the following address

. This letter must be addressed to Dr. Ramon Vasquez, Chairman of the GCREAS Accreditation Council and must be signed by the authority which legally represents the University or Institute of higher learning which the applying program belongs to.

Inauguration of GCREAS Headquarters in Santo Domingo |

On September 7, 2010 the GCREAS headquarters were inaugurated in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on space provided by the Dominican professional association of Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors (CODIA). The event represents another step toward the independence and autonomous operation of the Regional Engineering Accreditation System for the Greater Caribbean, as a quality assurance agency for engineering education programs in the region. In this way, the GCREAS project international initiative, financed by the Inter American Development Bank (IADB), with contributions from the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Government of the Doominican Republic, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Science & Technology (MESCyT), as well as from institutions in Panama and Jamaica, and the Hewlett Packard Laboratories, arrive at a crucial milestone in the formation of the international accrediting agency.

On July 19, 2010, in the city of Kingston, Jamaica, took place launching meeting of GCREAS Accreditation Council. The gathering was sponsored by the Professional Engineers Registration Board, PERB, of Jamaica; the University of Technology, Jamaica, Utech; and the IADB-financed GCREAS operation; and was attended by a number of guest dignitaries, including representatives from the Ministries of Education and Transport of Jamaica; the Jamaica Institution of Engineers and the IADB. From the GCREAS organization, attended the meeting: Garth Kiddoe, Chairman; Miguel Escala, Treasurer; Hugo Pirela, Executive Director and the Accreditation Council elected members: Luis Donderis, Pedro Reyes, Rafael Marion-Landais, J.F.K. Earle, Ramón Vásquez and Muhammad Younas Shams.

 On the 8th of June 2010, in the Auditorium Leonel Rodriguez Rid, Campus I UNAPEC, in the Dominican Republic Presentation was presented the GCREAS On-line Training System Engineering Accreditation by Prof. Carmen Gloria Labbe, the presentation introduced the steps and documentation needed to complete the training process for the accreditation of engineering programs within the GCREAS System.

National Steering Committee Meeting of the Dominican Republic
On the 24th of March 2010, the GCREAS National Committee of Dominican Republic met in CODIA’s Ex-presidents Meeting Room. Attendees covered the meeting’s agenda, which included the following points: 1) Report on the activities and resolutions of GCREAS Board of Directors to all members of the National Committee; 2) Preparation for identifying and selecting the candidates from the Dominican Republic to GCREAS’s Accreditation Council; and 3) Preparation for identifying engineering programs as candidates for the first GCREAS’ accreditation cycle. Present in the meeting were: Rafael Gonzalez, Vice-Minister of MESCyT; Miguel Escala, Rector of INTEC; Rafael Rodríguez, Secretary of Proceedings at CODIA; Gilberto Martinez, CODIA; Yrvin Rivera, Dean of Engineering at UNAPEC, representing Justo Pedro Castellanos, Rector of UNAPEC; José Antonio Lomba from the Association of Herrera’s Industial Enterprises, and Hugo Pirela, GCREAS Coordinator.
